Itacurubí de la Cordillera is a small town in Paraguay. It is found in the Cordillera department. The town is about 92 kilometers (57 miles) from Asuncion, the capital city.

The name Itacurubí comes from the Guarani words "Itakuruvi." This means "crushed rock."

Itacurubí de la Cordillera was started on September 18, 1871. It was founded by people already living in the area. They called their community "Aguilera." The town is also known as the "Garden of the Cordillera."

In the past, people from Asuncion often visited Itacurubí. They came here for fun and relaxation.

The town celebrates its main festival on October 8. This day honors Nuestra Señora del Rosario, who is the town's patron saint. Some people in the town believe the official founding date should be October 7, 1871. However, there is no clear proof for this exact date.

What People Do for Work

Most people in Itacurubí work in farming. There are also small factories that make honey from sugar cane.

Local crafts are also important. People create beautiful pottery and crochet items. They also make quilts and a special type of woven fabric called poyvi.

There are many spas and resorts along the Yhagüy River. The river's name means "water under the shade" in Guarani. This is because about 85% of the river flows under thick, leafy trees. The Yhagüy River has clear water and fine white sand. It flows gently about 500 meters from the town center. The people of Itacurubí are used to having visitors.
