Ivo "Ivan" Mrázek (born January 18, 1926 – died April 4, 2019) was a famous Czech professional basketball player and coach. He was a point guard, which means he helped lead the team's offense.

Mrázek was recognized as one of FIBA's 50 Greatest Players in 1991. This award is given to the best basketball players in the world.

Playing Basketball

Ivo Mrázek was a very successful basketball player. He played for many years and won many awards.

Club Success

During his time playing for clubs, Mrázek won the Czechoslovakian Basketball League championship six times! This was a major basketball league in his home country. He won in 1947, twice in 1948, and then again in 1949, 1950, and 1951.

Playing for His Country

Mrázek also played for the Czechoslovakia national basketball team. He helped his team win a gold medal at the EuroBasket 1946 tournament. This was a huge achievement for him and his country.

He also led his team to win three silver medals at other EuroBasket tournaments. These were in 1947, 1951, and 1955. In 1951, he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the EuroBasket tournament. He was also the top scorer, meaning he scored the most points!

Mrázek even played in two Summer Olympic Games. He represented Czechoslovakia in the 1948 and 1952 Olympics.

After his playing career, Mrázek became a successful basketball coach.

As a head coach, Mrázek continued his winning streak. He coached teams to win the Czechoslovakian Basketball League championship six more times! These wins happened in 1958, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1967, and 1968. He helped many players become champions.

About His Life

Mrázek was born with the name Ivo, but many people, including his mother, called him Ivan. He lived a long life and passed away on April 4, 2019, when he was 93 years old.
