Ivan Vladimirovich Vasiliev (born 9 January 1989) is a famous Russian ballet dancer and choreographer. He is known for his amazing energy and powerful performances on stage. Ivan graduated from the Bielorussian Ballet School in 2006.

From a young age, Ivan showed incredible talent. He won many important awards early in his career. These included the First Prize and Best Dancer Prize at the Arabesque-96 Ballet Competition in Perm in 2005. He also won the First Prize at the Moscow International Ballet Competition in 2006. In the same year, he received a special award at the Varna International Ballet Competition. Later, in 2009, he earned the prestigious Benois Prix de la Danse. In 2014, he was given the special title of "Honoured Artist of Russia."

Ivan Vasiliev's Ballet Career

Joining the Bolshoi Ballet

Ivan Vasiliev joined the famous Bolshoi Ballet in Russia at the end of 2006. He quickly became a first soloist, which is a very important role. By the end of 2010, he was performing leading roles in many well-known ballets. These included Le Corsaire, Flames of Paris, and Don Quixote. He also starred in Giselle, Spartacus, and The Nutcracker. Because of his great skill, he was promoted to the rank of principal dancer at the Bolshoi Ballet.

Exploring New Opportunities

In late 2011, Ivan Vasiliev and Natalia Osipova, who was his fiancée at the time, decided to leave the Bolshoi. They wanted to explore more artistic opportunities around the world. They both became principal dancers at the Mikhailovsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg. This new role gave them the freedom to perform as guest artists in many different countries.

Ivan became a regular guest principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre in New York and at La Scala in Italy. He also continued to perform as a guest at the Bolshoi. He danced leading roles in other major theaters too, such as the Mariinsky Theatre and the English National Ballet. For five years, he was part of "The Kings of The Dance," an international group of male ballet stars. In 2015, he also became a regular principal dancer at the Novosibirsk Theatre.

Becoming a Choreographer

Starting in 2015, Ivan Vasiliev began to focus on choreography, which means creating new ballets. In the spring of 2015, he presented an evening of short ballet pieces. The next spring, in 2016, he staged an evening with three one-act ballets. That winter, he created a full-length Christmas ballet. In May 2016, he presented another one-act ballet as part of a project for young choreographers at the Bolshoi Theatre.
