Ivan Vladimirovich Vasiliev (born January 9, 1989) is a famous Russian ballet dancer and choreographer. He was born in Vladivostok, Russia. He trained at the Bielorussian Ballet School. He finished his studies in 2006.

Ivan Vasiliev won many awards early in his career. In 2005, he won First Prize at the Arabesque-96 Ballet Competition. He also won First Prize at the Moscow International Ballet Competition in 2006. In 2009, he received the Benois Prix de la Danse. This is a very important award in the ballet world. He was named "Honoured Artist of Russia" in 2014. This title recognizes his great contributions to art.

Ivan Vasiliev's Ballet Career

Ivan Vasiliev joined the Bolshoi Ballet in late 2006. He quickly became a top dancer. By the end of 2010, he was performing lead roles. He danced in famous ballets like Le Corsaire and Don Quixote. He also performed in Giselle and Spartacus. He was promoted to a principal dancer at the Bolshoi Ballet. This is the highest rank a dancer can achieve.

New Artistic Paths

In late 2011, Ivan Vasiliev and Natalia Osipova left the Bolshoi. They wanted to explore more artistic opportunities. They both became principal dancers at the Mikhailovsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg. This gave them the freedom to perform all over the world.

Vasiliev became a regular guest dancer. He performed with the American Ballet Theatre and La Scala. He also returned to the Bolshoi as a guest. He danced in many other famous theaters. These included the Mariinsky Theatre and the English National Ballet. For five years, he was part of "The Kings of The Dance." This was a group of international male ballet stars. In 2015, he also became a principal dancer at the Novosibirsk Theatre.

Becoming a Choreographer

Starting in 2015, Ivan Vasiliev began creating his own ballets. This is called choreography. In the spring of 2015, he presented an evening of short ballet pieces. The next year, he staged an evening with three one-act ballets. He also created a full-length Christmas ballet. In May 2016, he presented another one-act ballet. This was part of a project for young choreographers at the Bolshoi.
