Ivan Vekić (born October 18, 1938 – died December 17, 2014) was an important Croatian politician and lawyer. He helped start the Croatian Democratic Union, a major political party. He also served as the Minister of Interior for Croatia during a very important time, the Croatian War of Independence.

Early Life and Education
Ivan Vekić was born in a small place called Poljica, near Vrgorac, in 1938. This area was part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia at the time. He grew up and later decided to study law. He became a lawyer, which means he understood laws and helped people with legal matters.
Starting a Political Career
In 1989, Ivan Vekić became one of the people who helped create the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ). This was a new political party in Croatia. The party played a big role in Croatia becoming an independent country.
