Iwase Province (石背国, Iwase no Kuni) was an old area in Japan. It was like a small state or region. This province was located in what is now western Fukushima Prefecture. This area is on the large island of Honshū. Iwase Province existed for only a short time, from 718 AD to around 722 or 724 AD.

When Was Iwase Province Created?
Iwase Province was created in the year 718 AD. This happened during the time when Empress Genshō was the ruler of Japan. Empress Genshō was an important empress who helped manage the country. Provinces like Iwase were made to help the government control and organize different parts of Japan better.
Why Did Iwase Province Disappear?
Iwase Province did not last very long. Its history ended sometime between 722 AD and 724 AD. After this short period, the land that was Iwase Province became part of another, older province called Mutsu. This means it was no longer its own separate province. Instead, it was governed as part of the larger Mutsu area.
