Iyyampalayam is a small town in the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, India. It's a special place known for its rich culture and friendly people. There are a few other villages in Tamil Nadu with the same name, like one in the Erode district.

About Iyyampalayam

Iyyampalayam is home to about 12,000 people. Half of the population are boys and men, and the other half are girls and women. Most people here can read and write, which is great! The village is famous for growing lots of coconuts and mangoes. It's also located right at the bottom of the beautiful Kodaikanal hills.

A nearby place called the Marudanadi dam helps water over 3,000 acres of farmland. This means farmers can grow plenty of crops for everyone.

Festivals and Culture

Iyyampalayam is known for its exciting festivals. One of the most famous is the ancient Muthalamman Temple festival. This festival lasts for three days, usually from Wednesday to Friday.

On Wednesday night, a special silk-covered statue of the goddess is brought from a nearby village. Then, in a special ceremony, the silk is removed, and the goddess's eyes are opened. After this, she is decorated and taken to the main temple where the festival begins. On Friday, the festival ends with a special farewell ceremony for the goddess.

Another important event is the Sadayandi Swami petti festival. There's also a beautiful temple called Periya Iyyanar temple right by the Marudanadi river, which is a nice place to visit.

The people of Iyyampalayam are very patriotic. They even have a portrait of Pandit Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, which they treat with great respect in the temple.

During January, the village celebrates the Pongal festival with lots of excitement. They also hold a traditional sport called Jallikattu, which is a bull-taming event.

History and Notable People

Some people from Iyyampalayam were part of the Indian National Army (INA). This army was started by a great leader named Subhas Chandra Bose to help India gain freedom.

The ancestors of a famous freedom fighter named Dr. Subramania Siva also lived in this village.

Education and Travel

Iyyampalayam is well-connected by roads, making it easy to travel to and from the village. For education, the N.P.Ramasamy Memorial Higher Secondary School helps many students from the village get a good education.
