Mitchell Keith "J. J." Anderson (born September 25, 1960) is a former American professional basketball player. He played as a power forward and was known for his skills on the court. J. J. Anderson played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) before having a long career in Europe. He was 6 feet 8 inches tall and weighed about 205 pounds. Today, he lives in Bristol, Wisconsin.
Early Basketball Days
Before joining the NBA, J. J. Anderson played basketball in high school. He went to Metro High School in Chicago, Illinois. After high school, he attended Bradley University from 1978 to 1982. He was a star player for the Bradley Braves.
During his time at Bradley, J. J. Anderson achieved many honors:
- He was named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Newcomer of the Year in 1979.
- He was selected for the Second-team All-MVC in 1979.
- He made the First-team All-MVC three times, from 1980 to 1982.
His jersey number, 11, was so important to the team that it was retired. This means no other Bradley Braves player will ever wear that number again. It's a big honor for a college athlete!
Playing in the NBA
J. J. Anderson was chosen in the 1982 NBA draft. The Philadelphia 76ers picked him in the second round. He was the 36th player chosen overall. After a short time with the 76ers, he moved to the Utah Jazz. He played for the Utah Jazz from 1982 to 1985.
European Adventures
After his time in the NBA, J. J. Anderson spent 11 years playing basketball in Europe. He played in several different countries, showing his talent around the world.
- He played one season in Spain for CAI Zaragoza.
- He also played in Greece. In 1993, he helped his team, Aris BC, win the European Cup. This was a major championship!
- Anderson also played part of a season in Germany.
- He spent eight seasons playing in Italy. Most of this time was in Florence, where he became a very popular player. He was a true star for the city's basketball fans.
