Jacobus Hendrikus Bastiaan "Jaap" Spaanderman Jr. (born October 17, 1896, in Gouda – died July 22, 1985, in Laren) was a talented Dutch musician. He was known as a great pianist, cellist, and conductor. He also taught piano and conducting to many students.

Who Was Jaap Spaanderman?
Jaap Spaanderman Jr. came from a musical family. His father, Jacobus Hendrikus Bastiaan Spaanderman Sr., was also a musician. He was an organist and a conductor.
His Early Life and Studies
Young Jaap loved music from an early age. He studied the cello with a famous teacher named Isaac Mossel. He also learned to play the piano from Sarah Bosmans-Benedicts. Jaap was very good at both instruments. He even won a special award called the Dutch Prize of Excellence twice! He won it once for his cello playing in 1918. Then, he won it again for his piano playing in 1920. Both awards were from the Conservatoire of Amsterdam. Later, he traveled to Berlin to study how to be a conductor.
His Musical Career
When Jaap was in his early twenties, he went on two concert tours. He traveled to the Dutch East Indies, which is now Indonesia, to perform. In 1922, he started teaching piano. He taught at a music school in Amsterdam called the 'Muzieklyceum'. This school later became part of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
In 1932, Jaap became the conductor of a big orchestra. This was the Philharmonic Orchestra of Arnhem. He led many concerts with them. In 1949, he went back to teaching at his old school in Amsterdam. This time, he taught both piano and conducting.
Jaap Spaanderman's Students
Jaap Spaanderman was a very important teacher. He helped many young musicians become famous. Some of his well-known students include Bart Berman, Theo Bruins, Albert Brussee, Stanley Hoogland, Jan Marisse Huizing, Guus Janssen, Hans Kox, Reinbert de Leeuw, Lucas Vis, Hans Vonk, and Edo de Waart. His teaching helped shape the future of Dutch music.
