Herman Andrews (born December 23, 1907 – died July 1964) was a talented American baseball player. Everyone knew him by his nickname, "Jabbo". He was an outfielder who played in the Negro leagues from 1930 to 1943. Jabbo played for many different teams during his career.
Jabbo Andrews' Baseball Story
Jabbo Andrews played baseball for 10 seasons. His career stretched from 1930 to 1943. He was part of the Negro leagues, which were professional baseball leagues for African American players. These leagues were very important during a time when Black players were not allowed in Major League Baseball.

Jabbo was a busy player! He played for 11 different teams. These teams were part of five different leagues. It was common for players in the Negro leagues to switch teams often.

Jabbo played the most games (58) with the Indianapolis ABCs. This was a big part of his 263-game career.
Career Highlights
Jabbo Andrews was a strong hitter. In 1930, he hit for a .357 batting average. He also had 46 runs batted in (RBIs) that year. RBIs mean he helped his teammates score runs.
One of his best years was 1933. He led the Negro National League with an amazing .398 batting average. This means he got a hit almost 4 out of every 10 times he batted! He was known for his ability to get on base.
Even though he played fewer games later in his career, Jabbo still showed his skill. He had a .351 batting average in 1936. Jabbo Andrews was a talented player who made his mark in baseball history.
