History of the Jack's Creek Covered Bridge

The Jack's Creek Covered Bridge was designed by Walter G. Weaver. He was from Woolwine, Virginia. Charlie Elam Vaughn built the bridge in 1914. He was from Buffalo Ridge. The bridge was made from strong oak wood. It was built to help people get to the Jack's Creek Primitive Baptist Church. The bridge was named after this church.

In 1932, a new steel bridge was built nearby. The Jack's Creek Covered Bridge was updated in 1969. It got wider and received a new roof. The Virginia Department of Highways fully fixed it up in 1974. This repair cost about $4,550.00. Today, a fun festival is held at the bridge every June. It's called the Patrick County Covered Bridge Festival.

In 2015, there was a big flood on the Smith River. Heavy rain caused the nearby Bob White Covered Bridge to be destroyed. But the Jack's Creek Covered Bridge was strong. It survived the flood and is still standing today!
