Jack Laugher, born on January 30, 1995, is a famous British diver. He competes for Great Britain and England. Jack is especially good at springboard diving. He takes part in individual events and also in synchronized (synchro) events with partners like Chris Mears, Daniel Goodfellow, and Anthony Harding.
Jack Laugher and Chris Mears made history at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. They won a gold medal in the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard event. This was Britain's first-ever Olympic gold in diving! A week later, Jack won a silver medal in the individual 3-meter springboard at the same Games. This made him the first British diver to win two Olympic diving medals at one Olympics. His silver medal is still the highest place a British individual diver has achieved at the Olympics.
Jack has also won many medals at the Commonwealth Games. He was a double champion in 2014 and 2022, and a triple champion in 2018. He was also the first British diver to win two medals at the same World Championships in 2015. In 2015, Jack won the overall title in the FINA Diving World Series for the 3-meter springboard.

Jack's Early Life and Start in Diving
Jack Laugher was born on January 30, 1995, in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. He went to Ripon Grammar School in Ripon.
Jack became interested in diving when he was seven years old. He was at a swimming pool with his family when a lifeguard suggested he try diving lessons. He started learning to dive at the Harrogate and District Diving Club. When he was 14, he broke his arm during a trampolining competition. He had to have a metal plate put in his arm to help it heal.
Jack has shared that his last name, Laugher, is pronounced 'Law'.
Jack's Amazing Diving Career
Early Success: 2010–2011
Jack showed his talent early on. In 2010, he won gold medals in both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events at the European Junior Championships. He also won gold in both events at the World Junior Championships in Tucson, Arizona, that same year.
In October 2010, he represented England at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He competed in synchronized diving with his partner, Oliver Dingley. Even famous diver Greg Louganis was impressed by Jack's diving skills!
Becoming a Top Diver: 2012–2015
In 2012, Jack was chosen to be part of the Great Britain team for the London Olympics. He competed in the men's 3-meter springboard event. Later that year, in October 2012, Jack became the Junior World champion again. He won the 3-meter springboard in Adelaide, Australia. He also won the 3-meter synchronized competition with Tom Daley.
In 2013, Jack started diving with Chris Mears in the 3-meter springboard synchronized event.
In July 2014, Jack won a bronze medal in the 3-meter springboard at the World Cup in Shanghai. Soon after, at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, he won two gold medals! He won gold in the 1-meter springboard and another gold in the 3-meter synchronized event with Chris Mears.
At the 2015 World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, Russia, Jack and Chris Mears won a bronze medal in the 3-meter springboard synchronized event. This win helped them qualify for the Rio Olympics. Jack then won a second bronze medal in the individual 3-meter springboard. This made him the first British diver to win two medals at a World Championships.
Olympic Glory: 2016 Rio Olympics
In January 2016, Jack had a foot injury during training. But he recovered well! In May 2016, he and Chris Mears won the 3-meter synchronized springboard at the European Championships in London. Jack also won a silver medal in the individual 3-meter springboard.
At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Jack Laugher and Chris Mears made history. They became the first-ever diving gold medal winners for Great Britain in the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard. They scored 454.32 points, beating teams from the USA and China. Jack also won a silver medal in the individual 3-meter springboard event.
Continued Success: 2017–2019
In 2017, Jack and Chris Mears won three silver medals in the 3-meter synchronized event at the Fina/NVC Diving World Series.
At the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, Jack had an amazing performance. He successfully defended his title in the 1-meter springboard. The next day, he won another gold in the 3-meter springboard event. He then won a third gold medal at the Games in the men's 3-meter synchronized springboard with Chris Mears. Earlier in 2018, Jack and Chris also won a silver medal in 3-meter synchronized springboard at the 2018 FINA Diving World Cup in Wuhan. Jack also won a bronze in the individual 3-meter springboard at that event.
At the 2018 European Aquatics Championships in Glasgow/Edinburgh, Jack won gold in the men's 1-meter springboard. He won a second gold in the men's 3-meter springboard. He also added a silver medal in the 3-meter synchronized springboard with Chris Mears. Jack won a total of five international titles in 2018. Because of his achievements, he was named European male diver of the year for the second time by Ligue Europeenne de Natation (LEN).
In 2019, Jack Laugher started diving with Dan Goodfellow in the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard. This was because Chris Mears decided to take a break from competing and later retired. At the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in South Korea, Jack and Dan Goodfellow won a silver medal in the 3-meter synchronized event. In his individual 3-meter springboard event, Jack was leading for most of the competition. He ended up winning a bronze medal after a small mistake on his final dive.
More Medals: 2021–2024
At the 2021 FINA Diving World Cup in Japan, which was a test event for the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Jack and Dan Goodfellow won gold in the synchronized 3-meter springboard. Jack also won a silver medal in the men's 1-meter springboard at the 2020 European Aquatics Championships a few days later.
At the Tokyo Olympics, Jack and Dan Goodfellow finished 7th in the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard. Jack then won a bronze medal in the individual 3-meter springboard.
At the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Jack partnered with Anthony Harding for the first time in an international competition. They won a silver medal in the synchronized 3-meter springboard event. Jack also won an individual silver medal in the men's 1-meter springboard and a bronze medal in the 3-meter springboard event.
Jack was chosen for his fourth Olympics, the 2024 Paris Olympics. With Anthony Harding, he won a bronze medal in the synchronized 3-meter springboard. This was his fourth Olympic medal! In the individual 3-meter springboard, Jack finished seventh.
Jack's Life Outside Diving
Jack Laugher started dating fellow diver Lois Toulson in early 2017.
Jack is a strong supporter of the LGBT community. He believes that everyone should feel comfortable being themselves.
Awards and Recognition
In 2017, Jack won Diver of the Year at the British Swimming Awards. At the 2018 British Swimming Awards, he won both the Diving Athlete of the Year and the top Overall Athlete of the Year award. He was named European male diver of the year in 2016 and again in 2018 by Ligue Europeenne de Natation (LEN).
Jack Laugher, along with Chris Mears, was given the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) honor in 2017. This was for their great contributions to diving.
