Jack Hearn Watson Jr. (born October 24, 1938) is an American who worked as an important helper and advisor to President Jimmy Carter. He was the White House Chief of Staff, which is like the president's main manager, from 1980 to 1981.

Jack Watson's Early Life
Jack Watson went to Vanderbilt University and then studied law at Harvard Law School. He was a very good student! He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a captain. In the Marines, he was a Pathfinder and a Reconnaissance Team Leader, which means he helped explore and gather information for his unit. He has two children, Lincoln and Melissa.
Working with President Carter
Jack Watson was a key person in Jimmy Carter's journey to becoming president. In 1976, he led the team that planned policies for Carter and his running mate, Walter Mondale. After Carter won the election, Watson became the Director of the Transition Team. This team helped President Ford's government smoothly hand over power to President Carter.
Important Roles in the White House
During President Carter's time in office, from 1977 to 1981, Jack Watson held several big jobs. He was the Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs. This meant he helped connect the White House with state and local governments.
