Jack and Jean Leslie RiverWalk facts for kids
The Jack and Jean Leslie RiverWalk, often just called the RiverWalk, is a super cool pathway in Downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It runs along the Bow and Elbow rivers. Imagine a long, beautiful path perfect for walking, biking, or just enjoying the view!
The RiverWalk connects the Centre Street Bridge to the 9th Avenue SE Bridge. A big part of it opened on September 27, 2012. When it's all finished, the RiverWalk will be about 4 kilometers long. It will stretch from the Centre Street Bridge all the way to Lindsay Park. In 2015, the RiverWalk even won a special award called the National Merit Award for its awesome design! It's also a key part of making Calgary's East Village neighbourhood even better.

Building the RiverWalk: Stages of Development
The RiverWalk project is being built in different parts, called "stages." This helps make sure everything is done carefully and step-by-step.
Stage One: The First Steps
The first stage of the RiverWalk is already completely finished! It opened to everyone in September 2012. This stage was built in three smaller parts, called "phases":
- Phase One: This part goes from the old St. Patrick's Island Bridge to Riverfront Lane.
- Phase Two: This section stretches from Riverfront Lane to the Centre Street Bridge.
- Phase Three: This final part of Stage One connects the old St. Patrick's Island Bridge to the 9th Avenue SE Bridge.
Stage Two: Expanding the Path
The next part, Stage Two, will make the RiverWalk even longer! It will extend into the Victoria Park area, which is part of Calgary's Beltline neighbourhood. The Beltline is a very busy area with lots of people living there. We don't have a start date for building Stage Two yet, but everyone is excited for it to begin!
Stage Three: Completing the Journey
Stage Three is the final step for the RiverWalk. This stage will extend the path from Victoria Park all the way to Lindsay Park, along the Elbow River. Once Stage Three is done, the entire 4-kilometer (about 2.5 miles) RiverWalk will be complete! Stage Three will be built after Stage Two is finished.
