About Jackie Sibblies Drury
Jackie Sibblies Drury grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey. She was raised by her mother and grandmother, who were immigrants from Jamaica.
Her mother sent her to a private school in New Jersey. There, she saw how people were sometimes kept apart because of their race. This is known as segregation. Even in friendly communities, segregation could still be seen.
Her Education
Drury went to Yale University for her college studies. She focused on literature, which is the study of written works like books and poems.
Later, she earned a special degree called an MFA (Master of Fine Arts). She got this degree in playwriting from Brown University in 2010. This education helped her become the talented playwright she is today.

Pulitzer Prize for Drama

Drury also received the 2019 Steinberg Playwright Award for Fairview. This award included a $50,000 cash prize.
PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theatre Award
In 2022, she was honored with the PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theatre Award. This award recognizes American playwrights who are masters of their craft.
