Jackson Narcomey (January 25, 1942 – March 22, 2012) was a talented Muscogee Creek artist. He was known for his paintings and prints. Jackson was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He grew up in Eufaula, Oklahoma, which is part of the Muscogee Nation.

Early Life and Art Education

Jackson Leon Narcomey was born in 1942. His parents, Raymond and Frances Narcomey, were both full-blood Creek people. Jackson spent his childhood years in Eufaula, Oklahoma. This area is an important part of the Muscogee Nation.

When he was in high school, Jackson went back to Tahlequah. He attended Sequoyah Indian School. There, he began to study art seriously. His teacher was Riley White. Jackson learned about many art forms, including serigraphy. Serigraphy is a special way of making prints using screens.

Military Service

After finishing high school, Narcomey joined the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a flight mechanic on airplanes. He served for two years. After his time in the Air Force, he returned home to Oklahoma. He went back to live in the Muscogee Nation.

Developing His Art Career

In the 1970s, Jackson Narcomey began to focus on his art career. He painted in a style called the Bacone School flat style. This style often shows Native American life and stories. He also created abstract paintings and sculptures. Abstract art uses shapes, colors, and lines instead of realistic images.

Jackson's artwork earned many awards. He won prizes at both state and national levels. Today, his paintings are found in private collections. They are also displayed in museums. Besides being a fine artist, Narcomey also worked as a commercial screen printer.

Later Life and Legacy

Jackson Narcomey passed away in Muskogee in 2012. He left behind a legacy of beautiful art. His work continues to be admired by many.
