Sean Merrick, who is better known by his stage name Jacky Jasper, is a Canadian-American rapper, musician, and producer. He is also known by the names H-Bomb and HDV. He is considered a pioneer in rap music and is known for his unique G-funk hip-hop style.
Merrick learned a lot about music from the famous musician Ike Turner. Throughout his career, he has worked with many well-known artists. Early Work as HDV
In 1991, Merrick was a rapper in Toronto known as HDV. He was part of a music movement called the Can't Repress The Cause Movement.
In 1993, as HDV, he released his first album. The name HDV stood for 'Higher Deeper Values'. The album's cover art was very bold and made a strong statement about social issues like racial discrimination. The cover showed him in a powerful pose, similar to a famous painting of Jesus. This artwork was meant to make people think about serious problems in society.
Because the album's message was so strong, it was not widely sold in Canada. However, his talent was noticed by music innovators in the United States.
Moving to the U.S. as H-Bomb
In 1996, Merrick was invited to the U.S. to continue his music career. This move allowed him to reach a wider audience.
In 1997, he changed his stage name to H-Bomb and recorded a new album called Narcissism. The album featured famous rappers like Ice T, Coolio, and Kool Keith. A song from this album, "Playaz Need No Love," which featured Roger Troutman, became a hit. It reached number 33 on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks chart in 1999.
Becoming Jacky Jasper
In 1999, Merrick started using the name Jacky Jasper. He worked with Kool Keith on the album First Come, First Served. A song from that album, "Call the Cops," was later used in the 2006 movie Grandma's Boy.
..... This album did well, reaching number 60 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Later that year, he formed a supergroup called KHM with Kool Keith and Marc Live. Their album was titled Game.
In 2009, he released an album called 7th Veil - ... with Kool Keith and producer Chilly Chill. It featured many famous guests, including Ike Turner, Rick James, and Snoop Dogg.
Blogging and Media Appearances
In 2009, Jacky Jasper launched a celebrity news website called Diary of a Hollywood Street King. He was the main writer for the site, which became known for breaking major celebrity news stories.
In 2012, he appeared on the TV show Dateline NBC. The show was investigating another rapper from the 1990s, and Jasper's blog was mentioned for helping people connect and share information.
In 2016, news reports stated that someone had pretended to be Jacky Jasper to get close to the celebrity Kris Jenner.
