Jacobo Francisco Eduardo Fitz-James Stuart y Colón de Portugal (born December 28, 1718, died September 30, 1785) was an important Spanish nobleman. He was known by many titles, including the 3rd Duke of Berwick and the 3rd Duke of Liria and Jérica.
When his father, James Fitz-James Stuart, passed away in 1738, Jacobo inherited these important titles. He also held many other noble titles in both Spain and England. His mother was Spanish, and through her family, he was a direct descendant of the famous explorer Christopher Columbus.
Family Life and Marriage
Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart married María Teresa de Silva y Álvarez de Toledo on July 26, 1738. The wedding took place in Alba de Tormes, Spain. María Teresa was born on May 6, 1716, and passed away on May 5, 1790.
Her family was very wealthy and held many important titles. She was the daughter of Manuel María de Silva y Mendoza and María Teresa Álvarez de Toledo.
Children
Jacobo and María Teresa had one son who lived to be an adult. His name was Carlos Bernardo Fitz-James Stuart y de Silva. Carlos was born in Liria, Valencia, on March 25, 1752. He later passed away in Madrid on September 7, 1787.
