His Amazing Playing Career
High School Star
Jacque grew up in Altadena, California. He went to John Muir High School in nearby Pasadena. He was not only a great basketball player but also an excellent student, with a high GPA. He was considered one of the best high school players in the country.
In his senior year, Jacque averaged over 21 points and 19 assists per game. He also achieved six "triple-doubles" (meaning he had double-digit numbers in three different stats like points, rebounds, and assists). He was named a First-Team All-American. He also played in the famous McDonald's All-American Game, where he set a record with 13 assists and was named co-MVP.
Jacque was also recognized for his achievements off the court. In 1992, he won the Dial Award as the top male high school scholar-athlete in the nation. He was the first basketball player ever to win this award.
College Days at Kansas
Jacque chose to play college basketball for coach Roy Williams at the Kansas. He quickly became the starting point guard as a freshman. He helped his team win the MVP award at the 1993 Pre-Season NIT in New York City. He even hit a game-winning three-pointer in overtime against Indiana.
Throughout his four years at Kansas, Jacque was known for his excellent passing and strong defense. He became the all-time leader in assists for Kansas basketball with 804 total. He also held the record for the Big Eight Conference. His jersey number 11 was retired by the Kansas Jayhawks, a great honor.
Jacque continued to excel in academics, earning a 3.72 GPA in business administration. He was named an Academic All-American twice. In 1996, he was named the Big Eight Player of the Year.
