Jacquelyn Days Serwer's Life and Career

Jacquelyn Days was born in Florida. She grew up in New Rochelle, New York. She went to Sarah Lawrence College for her first degree. Later, she earned a master's degree from the University of Chicago. In 1981, she received her doctorate in art history. This is the highest degree you can get in a subject. She earned it from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

Working at the Smithsonian

In 1985, Serwer became a curator at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American Art. She helped organize art collections there. In 1987, she put together a special art show. It was about an artist named Gene Davis. The show was called Gene Davis: A Memorial Exhibition.

Leading the Corcoran Gallery of Art

In 1999, Jacquelyn became the Chief Curator of the Corcoran Gallery of Art. This meant she was in charge of all the art collections. In 2002, she organized a big art show for the artist Larry Rivers. It was called Larry Rivers: Art and the Artist. This show traveled to different countries. Serwer worked as Chief Curator for six years.
