Jacques Rouvier is a famous French pianist. He was born on January 18, 1947, in Marseille, France. He started his musical journey at the Paris Conservatory, a very well-known music school. There, he learned from amazing piano teachers like Jean Hubeau, Vlado Perlemuter, and Pierre Sancan. He was a brilliant student and won two top awards, called "Premiers Prix." He earned one for his piano playing in 1965 and another for playing in a small music group, known as chamber music, in 1967.
When he was younger, Jacques Rouvier was very successful in piano competitions. In 1965, he won the main prize at the Concours des Jeunesses musicales in Montreal, Canada. Two years later, in 1967, he won first place at both the Viotti International Music Competition in Italy and the Barcelona Competition in Spain. His success continued in 1971 when he won third prize at the Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud International Competition in Paris. These wins helped him become a well-known musician around the world.
In 1970, he started a piano trio, which is a group of three musicians, with Jean-Jacques Kantorow and Philippe Muller. They still perform together today. Jacques Rouvier also made a recording of all the piano pieces by the famous composer Maurice Ravel. This recording was so good that it won a special award called the Grand Prix du disque.
