Jacques Rouvier was born on January 18, 1947, in Marseille, France. He is a famous French pianist and a respected teacher.
He began his music studies at the well-known Paris Conservatory. There, he learned from amazing piano teachers. Some of his teachers included Jean Hubeau and Vlado Perlemuter. He worked very hard and won two top awards at the Conservatory. He earned a first prize for piano playing in 1965. Then, in 1967, he won another first prize for playing music with a small group.
When he was young, Jacques Rouvier was very successful in piano competitions. In 1965, he won the main prize at a big music competition in Montreal, Canada. He also won first place at two other competitions in 1967. These were the Viotti International Music Competition and the Barcelona Competition. In 1971, he won third prize at a major competition in Paris. This helped him become known around the world.
In 1970, he started a piano trio. This is a group of three musicians who play together. He formed the trio with Jean-Jacques Kantorow and Philippe Muller. They still perform music together today. Jacques Rouvier has also made many recordings. His recordings of all the piano music by Maurice Ravel won a special award called the Grand Prix du disque.
Teaching Music
Besides performing, Jacques Rouvier is also a dedicated teacher. He has been a professor at the Paris Conservatory since he was 28 years old. He has taught many talented students who have become famous pianists themselves.
