Jamaal Smith's Soccer Journey
Playing College Soccer
Jamaal Smith started his soccer journey playing for the York Lions college team. He helped his team win two big championships called CIS championships in 2008 and 2010. These were important wins for his college career.
He also got to represent Canada in a major sports event for university students called the Universiade. He played in this event in both 2009 and 2011.
Playing for Clubs
Jamaal had a chance to try out for a professional team, Major League Soccer's Toronto FC, in 2007. He was one of over 900 players trying out! Even though he didn't make the final team, it was a great experience.
Throughout his career, Jamaal played for several different soccer clubs. These included:

- K-W United FC
- Caledonia AIA
- Okzhetpes
- Vaughan Azzurri
In August 2013, he joined Caledonia AIA. Just a few days later, he played his first game for them. It was a big match against a Mexican club, Toluca, in the CONCACAF Champions League.
By April 2015, Jamaal was playing for Alpha United.
Playing for His Country
Even though Jamaal was born in Canada, he chose to play for the Guyana national team. He made his first international appearance for Guyana in 2012.
He even played in important games that were part of the qualifying rounds for the FIFA World Cup. He also represented Guyana in the 2012 Caribbean Cup, which is a tournament for teams from the Caribbean region. He played 12 matches for Guyana between 2012 and 2015.
Family Connections in Soccer
Jamaal Smith isn't the only soccer player in his family. His older brother, Jelani Smith, also played soccer for Guyana. It's cool that both brothers played for their country!
