Jamal Shuler (born January 11, 1986) is an American who used to play professional basketball. He played college basketball for Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). After college, he played for teams in Germany, France, Ukraine, and Israel. Jamal Shuler was even named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the EuroChallenge Final Four in 2015.

Jamal Shuler's Early Life and College Basketball
Jamal Shuler grew up in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He went to Jacksonville High School. After high school, he played college basketball for the Virginia Commonwealth University's team, the Rams.
Playing for VCU Rams
In his last year at VCU, Jamal was a star player. He scored about 15.5 points in each game. He also grabbed 4.6 rebounds and made 1.5 steals per game. He was very good at shooting from long distance, making 41.3% of his 3-point shots.
On March 6, 2008, Jamal was recognized for his great play. He was chosen for the 2008 CAA All-First Team. This means he was one of the best players in his college league. He also made the CAA All-Defensive Team, showing he was great at stopping opponents too.
Jamal Shuler's Professional Basketball Journey
After college, Jamal Shuler was not chosen in the 2008 NBA draft. But that didn't stop him from playing professionally! He started his career overseas.
Starting in Germany: TBB Trier
From 2008 to 2010, Jamal played for TBB Trier in Germany. This team is part of the BBL, which is Germany's top basketball league.
In 2009, he signed to play with Trier for another year. In January 2010, Jamal showed off his amazing skills. He won the Slam Dunk Contest at the 2010 BBL All-Star Game Event. On February 28, 2010, he had his best game ever in terms of scoring. He scored 39 points! He also got ten rebounds and five assists in a close game.
Moving to France: JA Vichy and SLUC Nancy
In July 2010, Jamal moved to France. He signed a one-year deal with the French team JA Vichy. On January 29, 2011, he had another fantastic scoring game. He scored 35 points, making 7 of 12 shots from 3-point range. He also had seven rebounds and three assists in a win.
During his time with Vichy, he played 30 games. He averaged 16 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.
In June 2011, Jamal signed with another French team, SLUC Nancy. He played for them during the 2011–12 season. With Nancy, Jamal helped the team win the 2011 French Supercup title. He stayed with Nancy for another season, signing again in July 2012.
Playing in Ukraine: Khimik
In August 2013, Jamal signed a one-year deal with the Ukrainian team Khimik. On April 27, 2014, he scored 32 points in a game against Donetsk. He also had three rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
Jamal helped Khimik reach the Round of 16 in the 2014 Eurocup. This is a big European basketball competition. In 51 games for Khimik, he averaged 12.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game.
Back to France: JSF Nanterre and AS Monaco
In July 2014, Jamal returned to France. He signed a one-year deal with JSF Nanterre. Jamal was a key player in leading Nanterre to win the 2015 EuroChallenge. This was a huge win for the team! He averaged 14 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists during the tournament. Because of his amazing performance, Jamal was named the Final Four MVP. This means he was the best player in the final games of the tournament.
In July 2015, Jamal signed with AS Monaco Basket. On February 21, 2016, he scored 31 points and helped Monaco win the 2016 French Leaders Cup. They won the final game 99–74. Jamal was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of this tournament too!
During the 2015–16 season, Jamal played 43 games. He averaged 15.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. In April 2016, he was chosen for the All-French League First-team. This means he was one of the top players in the entire French league.
Jamal signed with Monaco for another season in June 2016. He helped them win the 2017 French Leaders Cup again, making it two years in a row! They also reached the 2017 Champions League Final Four, another big European competition.
Return to Nanterre
In August 2017, Jamal Shuler went back to play for Nanterre 92. On December 20, 2017, he had a great game, scoring 23 points and getting nine assists. He was named the Champions League Gameday 9 MVP for his performance. Jamal also helped Nanterre win the 2017 French Supercup title.
Playing in Israel: Hapoel Tel Aviv
In August 2018, Jamal signed a one-year deal with the Israeli team Hapoel Tel Aviv. He joined his former teammate Alade Aminu there. In 36 games for Hapoel, he averaged 10.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. Jamal helped the team reach the 2019 Israeli League Playoffs.
Playing in Greece: Iraklis and Aris
On July 26, 2019, Jamal signed with Iraklis Thessaloniki in Greece. He played for them during the 2019–20 season. He averaged 13.5 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game.
In September 2020, Jamal signed with Aris, another team in the Greek Basket League. He played for them until 2021.
The Basketball Tournament
In 2017, Jamal Shuler also played in The Basketball Tournament. This is a special competition where teams compete for a big cash prize. Jamal played for Ram Nation, a team made up of former VCU college players. He averaged 10.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in the tournament. Ram Nation made it to the Elite 8, which is the final eight teams. The Basketball Tournament is shown on ESPN.
