Jamal Zahalka (Arabic: جمال زحالقة, romanized: Jamāl Zaḥalqa, Hebrew: ג'מאל זחאלקה; born 11 January 1955) is an Arab-Israeli politician. He was a member of the Knesset, which is like Israel's parliament. He represented the Balad party from 2003 to 2019. He also led the Balad party from 2007 to 2019.

Jamal Zahalka was born in a place called Kafr Qara. As a young person, he was interested in politics and community activities. He went to a Jewish high school in Haifa. After high school, he studied pharmacy at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He earned several degrees, including a PhD. Before becoming a politician, he worked as a pharmacist.

His Political Journey

Mr. Zahalka was active in groups that supported Arab rights and left-wing ideas. He joined the Balad party after meeting its founder, Azmi Bishara, in college.

He was first elected to the Knesset in 2003. He was re-elected in 2006, 2009, 2013, and 2015. In 2007, he became the leader of the Balad party. He stepped down as party leader before the April 2019 elections and left the Knesset.

Jamal Zahalka lives in Kafr Qara. He is married and has five children.

His Views on Equality

Jamal Zahalka often spoke about how Palestinians are treated in Israel. He believed in equal rights and fair treatment for everyone. He worked to make sure that all citizens, including Arab citizens, had the same opportunities and rights. He talked about the importance of different groups living together fairly.
