Jamel Gurley Artis, born on January 12, 1993, is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for Al Wahda. Jamel grew up in Baltimore and played college basketball at the University of Pittsburgh.

College Basketball Journey

Jamel Artis went to Notre Dame Prep in Massachusetts. On April 12, 2013, he decided to play college basketball for the Pittsburgh Panthers.

As a first-year student, called a freshman, Artis played as a power forward. This means he played close to the basket, helping with scoring and rebounding. He often came off the bench, meaning he wasn't a starter but came into the game to help his team.

Jamel's skills improved over time. After the 2014–15 season, he was named to the All-ACC third team. This is a special honor for top players in the Atlantic Coast Conference. In his final year, as a senior, he received an All-ACC honorable mention, showing he was still one of the best players.

Professional Basketball Career

After college, Jamel Artis began his professional basketball career. Even though he wasn't chosen in the 2017 NBA draft, he worked hard to join different teams.

Playing for the Orlando Magic (2017–2018)

On June 24, 2017, Jamel signed a contract to play for the New York Knicks in the NBA Summer League. This is where new players try to show off their skills. He played well, scoring about 8.8 points per game.

Later, on August 18, 2017, Artis signed with the New York Knicks. However, he was released before the regular season started.

A few days later, Jamel signed a special "two-way contract" with the Orlando Magic. This type of contract allows a player to split their time between an NBA team and its minor league team, which is called an NBA G League affiliate. For Jamel, this meant playing for both the Orlando Magic and the Lakeland Magic.

Jamel made his first NBA game appearance with the Orlando Magic on December 13, 2017.

Time with the Agua Caliente Clippers (2018–2019)

After his time with the Magic, Jamel signed with the Sacramento Kings for their training camp on September 24, 2018. Training camp is a time for players to practice and try to earn a spot on the team. However, he was waived by the Kings on October 7, 2018. He then joined the Agua Caliente Clippers.

Playing in France with Levallois Metropolitans (2019–2020)

On July 3, 2019, Jamel Artis moved to France to play for Levallois Metropolitans. He had a good season there, averaging 13.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.
