Early Life and Education

James Donald Charteris is the second son of Francis David Charteris, who was the 12th Earl of Wemyss. His mother was Mavis Murray. He attended Eton College, a famous school in England.

When he was a teenager, he served as a Page of Honour to the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. This was a special role where he helped the Queen Mother at official events.

He later studied at Oxford University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1969 and his Master of Arts (MA) degree in 1974. He also completed a DPhil (a type of doctorate) from St Antony's College, Oxford in 1975. In 1978, he received a diploma from the Royal Agricultural College.

Career and Titles
