James Cooke Brown (born July 21, 1921 – died February 13, 2000) was an American sociologist and science fiction author. A sociologist studies how people live and interact in groups. Brown is famous for creating Loglan, which is a special language made by people, not one that grew naturally. He also designed the fun board game Careers for Parker Brothers.

Brown's Amazing Ideas

James Cooke Brown had many interesting ideas. He wrote a science fiction novel called The Troika Incident in 1970. In this book, he imagined a future world with a huge, free knowledge base. This was a lot like the Internet we use today!

A Vision of the Future

His novel starts with the world facing big problems. But then, it shows a peaceful and rich world about 100 years later. This amazing future was built on good ideas and human cleverness. Brown's book suggested that society could change for the better. He believed this could happen through free education and people's ability to solve problems.

The book also predicted something cool: in the year 2070, people would read all books and magazines on small electronic devices. He called these devices "readers." This sounds a lot like the e-readers and tablets we have now!

Sailing the World

Besides writing and creating games, Brown was also an adventurer. He designed and built a special kind of sailboat called a trimaran. A trimaran is a boat with three hulls, or main bodies, which makes it very stable. He used this unique boat to sail to many different places around the world.

His Final Journey

James Cooke Brown passed away on February 13, 2000. He was 78 years old. He died in a hospital in Argentina while on a cruise in South America with his wife.
