The James Elliott Farm is a very old farm located near the town of New Harmony in Posey County, Indiana. This farm is special because it has a main farmhouse and seven other buildings. These include places to store corn, a barn, a shed, a silo, and a milkhouse.
The farm's main building is the farmhouse. It was built in 1826 by an English immigrant named James Elliott. The house was designed in a style called Greek Revival. This style looks a bit like ancient Greek temples. Even before James Elliott owned it, the land was linked to a special community that followed the ideas of Robert Owen. James Elliott was not only a farmer but also the community's brewer, making drinks for everyone.

What Makes the Farmhouse Special?
The James Elliott Farmhouse has some unique features. It has two big chimneys and a front that is perfectly balanced. The front of the house has five sections, called "bays."
The Front Porch and Doors
There is a porch at the front with a triangular roof, which is a common part of the Greek Revival style. The main front door is in the middle of the first floor. On each side of the door, there are two windows. The second floor looks very similar, but instead of a door, there is another window in the middle.
A Farm with a Long History
Even though the Elliott Farm is almost 200 years old, not all of its buildings are from the very beginning. One of the smaller buildings was finished in 1938, much later than the main house.
Keeping the Farm Alive
Later in the 1900s, the Elliott family still owned the farm. They worked hard to fix up and take care of the old buildings. This was part of a bigger effort to save many old buildings from the time of the Harmony Society in New Harmony.
Becoming a Historic Place
Because of their hard work, the family managed to get the farm listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. This is a list of important places in the United States that are worth saving. The farm was added to the list because of its special architecture and its importance in farming history.
New Harmony has six properties listed on the National Register. Many other buildings in the town are grouped together as the New Harmony Historic District, which is also a National Historic Landmark. Out of the six separate listings, only the Harmony Way Bridge and the James Elliott Farm are not part of the larger historic district.
