The James Joyce Centre is a special museum in Dublin, Ireland. It helps people learn about the famous Irish writer, James Joyce. The centre opened its doors to visitors in June 1996.

About the Centre

The centre is in a beautiful old house. It was built in 1784. This house is a "Georgian townhouse." This means it was built in a popular style from the 1700s. It is located on North Great George's Street in Dublin. This area was once very grand.

Inside the museum, you can see interesting items. There is furniture from Paul Leon's apartment in Paris. Joyce wrote much of his book Finnegans Wake there. You can also see the actual door from 7 Eccles Street. This was the home of characters Leopold Bloom and Molly Bloom in Joyce's famous book, Ulysses. A man named John Ryan saved the door from being destroyed.

What You Can Do There

The James Joyce Centre does not have a huge permanent collection. But it often has temporary exhibits. These exhibits help explain different parts of Joyce's life and his books. The centre also holds talks and guided walking tours. These tours explore places in Dublin linked to Joyce.

The centre also organizes the yearly Bloomsday Festival in Dublin. This festival has been held since 1994. It celebrates the day Ulysses takes place, June 16th. The centre also helps promote other events about James Joyce.
