James Madison Lee (born October 15, 1926 – died September 11, 2017) was a very important leader in the United States Army. He reached the high rank of lieutenant general. From 1983 until he retired in 1985, he was in charge of the United States Army Pacific (also known as Western Command).
James Lee joined the Army Air Corps Reserve in 1944. He served during World War II, a huge global conflict. After the war, he went to the United States Military Academy and finished his studies in 1950. He also continued his education at other important military colleges.
He was a soldier in two other major wars: the Korean War and the Vietnam War. In both wars, he led infantry soldiers. He also worked in important roles in the Army's main office and for allied forces in Europe. He retired from the Army in 1985.
