James Rallison's Career

Starting with Webcomics

Rallison first started sharing his drawings as webcomics. These comics were called TheOdd1sOut. He put his very first comic strip on Tumblr in June 2012. He was 16 years old at that time.

After making 100 comics, he had 100 followers. It took him about a year to find his unique drawing style. By September 2016, he had drawn around 400 comic strips. Rallison called the characters in his comics "marshmallow people." This was because they looked white and round. His comics often focused on fun and light topics. He would sometimes take famous jokes literally or make fun of common social situations.

Becoming a YouTube Star

On August 30, 2014, Rallison started his YouTube channel. It was named theodd1sout comic. This was just over two years after he began his webcomics. In his animated videos, he uses the same "marshmallow people" characters. He talks about his life, his thoughts, and his opinions.

His first video was called "A Book I Made as a Kid." In it, he looked at a short story he wrote in elementary school. In March 2016, his channel reached 100,000 subscribers. By July 2016, his channel had grown to 1 million subscribers. At some point, Rallison left college to focus on making videos full-time.

On December 2, 2017, Rallison made a second channel. It is called TheOdd2sOut. On this channel, he uploads videos that are not animated, like gaming content. TheOdd2sOut reached 1 million subscribers in April 2018. His main channel, TheOdd1sOut, hit 10 million subscribers in January 2019.
