James Ross, known as the 7th Lord Ross of Halkhead, was an important Scottish nobleman who lived a long time ago. He was a leader in Scotland during the 1600s.

Who Was James Ross?

James Ross was the oldest son of James Ross, the 6th Lord Ross. His mother was Margaret, the daughter of Walter Scott, 1st Lord Scott of Buccleuch. The Ross family of Halkhead, located in Renfrewshire, was a Lowland family. It is interesting to know that this Ross family was not related to the famous Earls of Ross or the Highland family of Ross from Balnagown.

His Lands and Property

When his father passed away, James Ross officially became the owner of his family's lands. This happened on September 18, 1634. He took over the lordship and barony of Melville, along with other areas like Broomlands. Later, on January 25, 1636, he received official documents, called charters, for more lands. These included Halkhead, Craig, Balgone, and Easter Stanley, also in Renfrewshire.

His Passing

James Ross died in March 1636. He was in a place called Jaffa when he passed away. He never married. After his death, his brother, William, became the 8th Lord Ross.
