James Frank Rowson was born on September 12, 1976. He is an American professional baseball coach. Currently, he is the hitting coach for the New York Yankees. The Yankees are a team in Major League Baseball (MLB). Before joining the Yankees, he coached for other MLB teams. These teams included the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, Miami Marlins, and Detroit Tigers.

Playing Baseball

James Rowson grew up in Mount Vernon, New York. He went to Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx, a part of New York City. In 1994, the Seattle Mariners chose Rowson in the MLB draft. He played minor league baseball from 1995 to 1997. Minor league baseball is where players develop their skills before reaching the big leagues. He played for the Mariners' and the New York Yankees' minor league teams. In 1998, he played for the Cook County Cheetahs. This team was part of an independent league called the Heartland League.

Coaching Career

After his playing days, Rowson became a coach. For six years, he worked for the Yankees. He was their minor league hitting coordinator. This means he helped young players improve their hitting skills.

In 2012, he joined the Chicago Cubs. He started as their minor league hitting coordinator. Later that year, in June 2012, he became the hitting coach for the main Cubs team. After the 2013 season, Rowson went back to the Yankees. He again worked as their minor league hitting coordinator.

Before the 2017 season, the Minnesota Twins hired Rowson. He became their hitting coach. After the 2019 season, Rowson left the Twins. He then joined the Miami Marlins as their bench coach. On November 15, 2022, the Detroit Tigers hired him. He worked as an assistant hitting coach for them.

After the 2023 season, the Yankees hired Rowson once more. He is now their hitting coach.
