James Robert Stone, born on April 26, 1992, used to play professional American football. He was a center, which is a key position on the offensive line. James played college football for the Tennessee Volunteers. Later, he joined several NFL teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Oakland Raiders.

Stone's Early Life and High School Football
James Stone grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. He played high school football at Maplewood High School. He was recognized as the best lineman in Tennessee for his division. He was also named to the All-State first-team by sports writers. In 2010, James played in the special Under Armour All-America Game. This game features some of the best high school football players in the country.
College Football Career
After high school, James Stone went on to play college football. He played for the Tennessee Volunteers from 2010 to 2013. During his time there, he played under two different head coaches, Derek Dooley and Butch Jones.
Playing in the NFL
James Stone hoped to join the NFL after college. Experts rated him as one of the top centers in the 2014 NFL draft.
Atlanta Falcons
Even though he was not picked in the 2014 NFL Draft, James Stone signed with the Atlanta Falcons. He joined the team on May 10, 2014. His first NFL game was on October 5, 2014, against the New York Giants.
In his first year, 2014, Stone played in 12 games. He started nine of those games as the center. He helped the Falcons' offense gain a lot of yards.
- On November 30, 2014, his team gained 500 total yards against the Arizona Cardinals.
- On December 8, 2014, they gained 465 total yards against the Green Bay Packers.
The Falcons' offense was one of the best in the NFL that year. They ranked 8th in total offense and 5th in passing yards.
In 2015, Stone continued to play for the Falcons.
- On October 11, 2015, he stepped in for an injured teammate. The offense gained 418 total yards against the Washington Redskins.
- On October 15, 2015, he made his first start of the season. The team gained 413 total yards, including 150 rushing yards, against the New Orleans Saints.
He was later placed on injured reserve due to a knee injury. He left the Falcons in July 2016.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
On January 20, 2017, James Stone signed a special contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This type of contract is called a reserve/future contract. He was later released by the team on September 2, 2017.
Oakland Raiders
Just two days later, on September 4, 2017, Stone joined the Oakland Raiders. He was first signed to their practice squad. A practice squad is where players train with the team but are not on the main roster. On December 20, 2017, he was moved to the active roster, meaning he could play in games. He was released by the Raiders on September 1, 2018.
Chicago Bears
On September 3, 2018, James Stone signed with the Chicago Bears. He joined their practice squad. He was released from the Bears' practice squad on November 17, 2018.
