Jamundí is a lively town and municipality in the Valle del Cauca Department of Colombia. It's located about 17 kilometers (11 miles) south of Cali, which is the capital city of the department. Jamundí sits on the west side of the Cauca River. The weather here is usually warm, with an average temperature of 23 degrees Celsius (73 degrees Fahrenheit).

The Story of Jamundí
Jamundí was officially founded on March 23, 1536. This was just four months before the city of Cali was established. Two Spanish explorers, Pedro de Añasco and Juan de Ampudia, founded the town.
How Jamundí Got Its Name
The name "Jamundí" comes from a local leader. Before the Spanish arrived, a powerful chief called cacique Jamundí led the tribe living in this area. The town was named in his honor.
Jamundí's Natural Beauty
The municipality of Jamundí has mostly flat land. However, in the west, you can find some tall mountains. These are part of the "Farallones de Cali" and can reach heights of 4,200 meters (about 13,780 feet).
Rivers and Streams
Jamundí is located between the Cauca River and the Western Ranges of Colombia. It is also home to seven important rivers: the Claro River, Cauca, Guachinte, Jamundí, Jordán, Pital, and Timba. Many smaller streams also flow through the town and its rural areas, adding to its natural beauty.

Parque De Los Cholados
One of Jamundí's most famous spots is the Cholado Park. This park is near downtown Jamundí and is entirely dedicated to selling a popular Colombian dessert called Cholado. Many vendors set up their shops here to sell this refreshing treat.
It is said that the Cholado was first created in Jamundí. People believe that the Cholados made here use the true, original recipe. Many people from nearby Cali visit Jamundí just to enjoy these authentic Cholados. Besides Cholados, vendors in the park also sell other tasty desserts like Luladas, snow cones, and fruit salads.
Centro Comercial Alfaguara
The Alfaguara Shopping Mall is located in the southern part of Jamundí. It first opened in 1996 and has 89 different shops. The mall also features two man-made lakes and a large supermarket called Éxito. It's a great place for shopping and entertainment.
Sports in Jamundí
Jamundí once had its own football (soccer) team called Depor F.C.. This team played in the Colombian second division. However, the team later moved to the city of Cali and changed its name to Depor Aguablanca.
