Early TV Days and Acting Roles
When Jan was just twelve years old, she hosted a children's TV show. This was in her hometown of Greenville, South Carolina. Her first job as a reporter was in Tallahassee, Florida. She also worked as a reporter and anchor in Charlotte, North Carolina and Charleston, South Carolina.
Besides news, Jan has appeared in several TV shows. These include NBC’s This Is Us and Netflix’s What If. She was also in FOX’s 911 and Family Time. She even acted in the Lifetime movie My Daughter was Stolen. In 2019, she appeared in the films In the Line of Duty and Mainstream.
Working in Major Cities
From 2004 to 2007, Jan was a morning anchor at KRIV in Houston, Texas. During her time there, the morning news show became very popular. It was the fastest-growing morning news program in Houston.
In 2007, Jan moved to Chicago to work at WFLD-TV. She first co-hosted the "Good Day Chicago" morning show. Later, she became a co-anchor for the Noon newscast. Her work on Good Day Chicago helped the show win an Illinois AP award in 2008. She also won two local Emmy awards for her reporting.
After leaving WFLD in 2012, Jan helped launch "The List." This was a syndicated entertainment show. From 2013 to 2018, she was a morning and evening TV news anchor for WUSA-TV in Washington, D.C..
Since 2018, Jan has worked for Sinclair Broadcast Group. She first worked for WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C. Then, in late 2020, she became the lead anchor for The National Desk. This national news service broadcasts from the WJLA-TV studios.
Awards and Recognitions
Jan Jeffcoat has won many awards for her work in news. She has won five Emmy awards for her anchoring and reporting. She also won an Edward R. Murrow award for her reporting. This award was for her coverage after the earthquakes in Haiti.
H-Texas Magazine named her a "Top Houston Professional." She was also nominated for a Regional Emmy for her coverage of a collision in Houston. In 2006 and 2007, she was nominated for "Best Anchor in Texas." She also received two AP awards for her anchoring.
In 2005 and 2006, she was nominated for a Star Award. This award was from the American Women of Radio and Television. In 2010, her alma mater, the USC, named her "Outstanding Young Alumni of the Year."

In 2003, she married Matthew Kingsley. He works as a talent agent in Hollywood. Their first daughter, Kana Zen, was born in March 2012. Their second daughter, Kensington Sage, was born in May 2015. In 2008, Jan moved to California. This was because her husband moved his entertainment company there.
