Jan Marek (born December 31, 1979 – died September 7, 2011) was a talented Czech professional ice hockey player. He played as a centre, which is a key position in the middle of the ice. Jan was chosen by the New York Rangers in the 8th round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He was known for his scoring skills and played for many teams in the Czech Republic and Russia.

Jan Marek's Hockey Journey
Jan Marek started his professional ice hockey journey in the Czech Extraliga. He played for teams like HC Oceláři Třinec and HC Sparta Praha. He was a strong player who scored many goals and helped his teammates.
Playing in Russia
In 2006, Jan moved to Russia to play in the Russian Superleague and later the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He played for famous teams such as Metallurg Magnitogorsk, HC CSKA Moscow, and Atlant Moscow Oblast.
Jan was a top scorer in the KHL. In the 2008–09 KHL season, he led the league with 35 goals! This showed how skilled he was at putting the puck in the net.
His Final Team
For the 2011-12 KHL season, Jan signed with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. Sadly, he passed away before he could play a game for his new team.
A Sad Day for Hockey
On September 7, 2011, Jan Marek died in a tragic plane crash. He was traveling with almost his entire Lokomotiv Yaroslavl team. The team was on their way to play their first game of the season in Minsk, Belarus. This sad event deeply affected the world of ice hockey.
