Jan Ladislav Rubeš (born June 6, 1920 – died June 29, 2009) was a talented Czech-Canadian opera singer and actor. He was known for his deep singing voice, called a bass. He also became a Member of the Order of Canada, a special honor.

Jan Rubeš was born in a town called Volyně in Czechoslovakia. This was before it became the Czech Republic. After World War II, he finished his studies at the Prague Conservatoire. He then joined the Prague Opera House. There, he sang as a bass, which is the lowest male singing voice.

In 1948, Jan Rubeš won first prize at an important music festival in Geneva. Later that year, he moved to Canada. He wanted to have a bigger career there. He started as a singer with the Canadian Opera Company. He later directed shows and became the touring director.

Jan Rubeš then moved into radio and television. He became very well-known in Canada as an actor and a host. He played many different characters. Some of his most famous roles include Eli Lapp in the movie Witness. He also played Jan in D2: The Mighty Ducks.
