Janakkala (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈjɑnɑˌkːɑlɑ]) is a town in Finland. It is known as a municipality, which is like a local government area. The main town in Janakkala is Turenki. Sometimes, maps might mistakenly show Turenki as Janakkala.
Janakkala is located along Highway 3 (also known as E12) in Southern Finland. It is part of the Tavastia Proper region. To the south, Janakkala is next to Riihimäki. Its northern neighbor is Hämeenlinna. It's about 16 kilometers from Turenki to Hämeenlinna. The bigger cities of Tampere and Helsinki are both about 94 to 96 kilometers away.
Janakkala has a population of 16,123 people (as of 31 December 2023). The total area of Janakkala is 586.07 square kilometres (226.28 sq mi). A small part of this area, 38.63 km2 (14.92 sq mi), is water. The population density is about 29.45 inhabitants per square kilometre (76.3/sq mi), meaning how many people live in each square kilometer. The local language spoken in Janakkala is Finnish only.

- Ida Aalberg's Birthplace: The famous actress Ida Aalberg (1857-1915) was born in Leppäkoski village in Janakkala.
Janakkala's Coat of Arms
The coat of arms is like a special symbol for Janakkala. It shows the head of a Eurasian lynx. The lynx is the official animal of the Tavastia Proper region, which shows Janakkala's place in the heart of Tavastia.
The design also includes a special line that looks like an aisle. This line represents the Hakoinen Castle, which is built into a mountain. The two arrows around a cross symbolize Christianity and battles from the Crusades.
