The Sky Is Everywhere
Jandy Nelson's first novel, The Sky Is Everywhere, came out in 2010. This book is about a 17-year-old girl named Lennie Walker. Lennie is dealing with the loss of her sister. She learns to find her own way and become the main character in her own life story.
The Sky Is Everywhere was chosen as one of the Best Fiction books for Young Adults by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). It also appeared on many "best-of-the-year" lists. These lists included ones from NPR and The Horn Book Magazine. The book has been published in over 20 countries.
I'll Give You the Sun
Nelson's second novel, I'll Give You the Sun, was published in 2014. This book became a New York Times bestseller. It tells the story of Noah and Jude, who are twins. They are very close but also very competitive.
A series of sad family events and misunderstandings cause the twins to grow apart. They only start to understand themselves and fix their lives when they come back together.
I'll Give You the Sun won the important Printz Award. It also won the Josette Frank Award for older readers. The book was recognized as a Stonewall Book Award Honor Book too. It was listed on many "best-of-the-year" lists, including Time magazine's Top 10 YA Books. This novel has been published in 25 countries. Warner Bros. also bought the rights to make it into a movie!
