Jane Ackroyd was born in London. She studied art at two well-known schools. From 1979 to 1982, she attended St Martin's School of Art. Then, she earned her master's degree at the Royal College of Art from 1982 to 1983.

In 1984, Jane worked as an artist-in-residence in Leicestershire. This means she was invited to live and create art in a specific place for a while. That same year, she had her very first art show by herself.

Since 1988, Jane's sculptures have often been shown at the Royal Academy summer exhibitions in London. She has also had many solo shows at the Anderson O'Day gallery. In 1993, she took part in the first Open Sculpture Exhibition held by the Royal West of England Academy.
