Janet Margaret Anderson (later Perkin) was a fantastic Canadian athlete. She was born in Montreal, Quebec, in 1921. Janet became famous for playing baseball and curling. She was a pitcher and outfielder in a special baseball league. This league was called the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. She played there in 1946.
Janet was one of 68 Canadian players in this league. The league lasted for twelve years. She batted and threw with her right hand.

Janet Anderson's Baseball Journey
Janet grew up in Bethune, Saskatchewan. She became a teacher there. One day, a baseball scout saw her play. A scout is someone who looks for talented players. They offered her a contract to play professional baseball!
Joining the Kenosha Comets
Janet went to a special training camp. It was held in Pascagoula, Mississippi. After training, she joined the Kenosha Comets team. This was part of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
Her time in the league was short. She played 36 games. As a pitcher, she didn't win any games. She had a 0–6 record. As a batter, her batting average was .173. This means she got a hit about 17 times out of 100 tries.
Life Beyond Baseball
After her baseball career, Janet worked for a moving company. It was called Allied Van Lines. She also loved to go bowling in her free time.
Janet married Max Perkin. They had two children, Jean and Thomas. She also played softball. In 1954, she was part of the Regina Govins softball team.
A Champion Curler
Janet lived in Regina for a long time. She became a very successful curler. She used her married name, Janet Perkin, for curling.
Leading Her Team to Victory
In curling, the team leader is called a skip. Janet was an amazing skip. She guided her team to many wins.
She won the first Western Canada Women's Curling Championship in 1953. She also led her teams to win three provincial championships. These wins were in 1953, 1959, and 1964.
Honored for Her Achievements
Janet Anderson Perkin was recognized for her amazing sports career. She was elected into several Halls of Fame.
- In 1998, she joined the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
- In 2004, she was inducted into the Saskatchewan Curling Association Hall of Fame.
- In 2005, she entered the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame for curling.
- In 2008, she joined the Regina Sports Hall of Fame for softball.
She also received a special life membership. This was from the Saskatchewan Ladies Curling Association in 1992. In 2004, her 1953 curling team was named to the Saskatchewan Legends of Curling Honour Roll.
Women in Baseball Display
In 1988, Janet received another special honor. She became part of "Women in Baseball." This is a permanent display. It is located at the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. This display honors all the players from the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
Janet Anderson Perkin passed away in Regina, Saskatchewan, in 2012. She was 90 years old.
