Serving on Lewisham Council
In 2010, she was elected as a councillor for the Lewisham Council. She represented the Whitefoot area. She won this seat from the Liberal Democrats and received the most votes.
She was re-elected as a councillor in 2014 and 2018, again getting the most votes each time. During her time on the council, she also served as the deputy mayor for the London Borough of Lewisham. She left the council in March 2019 to focus on her role as an MP.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
In May 2018, Janet Daby was chosen to be the Labour Party's candidate for the 2018 Lewisham East by-election. A by-election is a special election held to fill a vacant seat in Parliament.
