Janet Seidel (born May 28, 1955 – died August 7, 2017) was an Australian jazz singer and piano player. She was known for her smooth voice and for performing classic jazz and pop songs. Janet toured around the world and released many albums during her career.

Janet's Early Life and Learning
Janet Seidel studied music at the Elder Conservatorium, which is part of the University of Adelaide. She earned her music degree there between 1973 and 1976.
Janet's Music Career
After finishing her studies, Janet Seidel worked as a music teacher at Sydney Girls High School in New South Wales. She also started her career as a professional musician, playing the piano and singing.
From 1976 to 1980, Janet was an important part of the Adelaide Feminist Theatre Group. She helped create music for their shows. For example, in 1976, she wrote the piano music for "The Carolina Chisel Show." In 1978, for a musical called "The Redheads' Revenge," she wrote all the songs, led the orchestra, played music, and helped with the show's writing and production. She also wrote songs and helped with choreography for another show in 1980 called "Out of the Frying Pan."
Janet Seidel released 18 CD albums. Her brother, David Seidel, often played bass guitar with her. Many of her albums were nominated for awards, like the ARIA Music Awards. In 2006, her album Moon of Manakoora won the Bell Award for Best Australian Jazz Vocal Album. This was a big achievement in Australian jazz music.
Janet's Later Years
Janet Seidel passed away on August 7, 2017, in Sydney. She was 62 years old and had ovarian cancer. Some news reports mistakenly said she died on August 8.
After she passed away, a new CD was released in Japan in September 2018. It was called You Are There and featured songs that had not been released before. Her brother, David Seidel, produced this special album.
