January Kristen Jones (born January 5, 1978) is an American actress. She is famous for playing Betty Draper in the TV show Mad Men (2007–2015). For this role, she was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards and an Emmy Award. She also played Melissa Chartres in The Last Man on Earth (2015–2018). January Jones has also been in movies like American Wedding (2003) and X-Men: First Class (2011).

Early Life and Name
January Kristen Jones was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on January 5, 1978. Her mother, Karen Cox, was a store manager. Her father, Marvin Jones, was an exercise physiologist. January was named after a character in a book called Once Is Not Enough. Her two sisters also have names starting with "J": Jina and Jacey. In 1979, her family moved to Hecla, South Dakota. They moved back to Sioux Falls in 1996. She finished high school at Roosevelt High School there.

Starting as a Model
January Jones started modeling in New York when she was 18. A modeling scout noticed her while she was still in high school. She has said that modeling was not her main goal. She modeled for big brands like Abercrombie & Fitch and Versace. She also appeared on the covers of many fashion magazines. These included Interview, Allure, and Rolling Stone.
Becoming an Actress
Jones began acting in the early 2000s. She had small roles in movies like Anger Management (2003) and Love Actually (2003). In 2005, she was in the film The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. She said this was a very creative experience for her. She also played Carol Dawson in We Are Marshall (2006).
Her most famous role was Betty Draper Francis in the TV show Mad Men. This show was about life in the 1960s. She played a young suburban mother for seven seasons. For this role, she received nominations for Golden Globe and Emmy Awards.
January Jones also played Cadence Flaherty in the comedy movie American Wedding (2003). This was part of the American Pie film series. She was also in a British film about pirate radio called The Boat That Rocked (2009).
