Jaraguá do Sul is a lively city in the northern part of Santa Catarina, a state in Brazil. It's known for its beautiful nature and busy industries. The city's name means "Lord of the Valley" in an old native language.

A Look Back: Jaraguá do Sul's History

Jaraguá do Sul was started on July 25, 1876. It was founded by Emílio Carlos Jourdan, an engineer and a colonel in the Brazilian Army, along with his family.

The city was first called just Jaraguá. But later, its name was changed to Jaraguá do Sul. This was because there was already another city named Jaraguá in a different state called Goiás.

Jaraguá do Sul is a city that loves sports! It has a famous futsal team and has hosted big sports events.

Futsal: A Winning Team

Malwee/Jaraguá, also known as Associação Desportiva Jaraguá, is a very successful futsal club. Futsal is like soccer, but played indoors on a smaller court. This team has won the national league, called Liga Futsal, two times!

In 2007, the city's main sports building, called Arena Jaraguá, hosted the final games of the Grand Prix de Futsal. This arena is a big place for sports events.

UFC Fights in the Arena

The Arena Jaraguá has also hosted two big Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) events. These are mixed martial arts competitions. The events were UFC on FX 8 in 2013 and UFC Fight Night 36 in 2014.
