Jared Malcolm Xavier Sullinger (born March 4, 1992) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for the Beijing Royal Fighters in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). Before playing professionally, he was a college basketball star at Ohio State University. The Boston Celtics chose him as the 21st pick in the 2012 NBA draft.

High School Basketball Star
Jared Sullinger was a top-ranked high school basketball player. Experts like ESPNU, Scout.com, and Rivals.com rated him among the best players in his class.
In his final year at Northland High School, Jared led his team to an amazing 21–0 season. They were even ranked number one nationally! During that season, he averaged 24.5 points and 11.7 rebounds per game.
Jared was chosen to play in several important high school games. These included the 2010 McDonald's All-American Game in Columbus, Ohio. He was even named co-MVP (Most Valuable Player) of that game! He also played in the 2010 Nike Hoop Summit and the 2010 Jordan Brand Classic.
In March 2010, Jared won the James A. Naismith Award. This award goes to the best high school basketball player in the country.
College Career at Ohio State
Jared Sullinger played college basketball for the Ohio State Buckeyes. His brother, J.J. Sullinger, also played for Ohio State.
Freshman Year Success
In his first game for Ohio State, Jared scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. During his freshman year (2010–11 season), he averaged 17.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.
He helped the Buckeyes win the 2011 Big Ten men's basketball tournament. Jared was named the Most Outstanding Player (MOP) of that tournament. Ohio State ended the regular season with an impressive 32–2 record. They were chosen as the top team in the 2011 NCAA tournament. The Buckeyes reached the "Sweet Sixteen" round before losing a close game to Kentucky. Jared was recognized as a First Team All-American by Fox Sports.
Sophomore Year and the Final Four
In his second and final year at Ohio State (2011–12 season), Jared continued to play strongly. He averaged 17.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.
He led the Buckeyes to the "Final Four" of the 2012 NCAA tournament. This is a huge achievement in college basketball! They lost to the Kansas Jayhawks in a tough game. Soon after, Jared decided to enter the 2012 NBA draft.
Professional Basketball Journey
Playing for the Boston Celtics (2012–2016)
On June 29, 2012, the Boston Celtics selected Jared Sullinger as the 21st pick in the 2012 NBA draft. He signed his first professional contract with them in July.
In November 2012, Jared achieved his first "double-double." This means he had double-digit numbers in two categories in one game (12 points and 11 rebounds). He also scored a season-high 16 points in a game against the Detroit Pistons.
During the 2013–14 season, Jared had an amazing game against the Toronto Raptors. He scored 25 points and grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds! This was the first time a Celtics player had a "20-20" game since 2007. Later that season, he scored a career-high 31 points against the Sacramento Kings.
Jared faced some injuries during his time with the Celtics. He had back surgery in 2013 and a foot injury in 2015. Despite these challenges, he continued to be an important player for the team. In December 2015, he tied his career high with 20 rebounds in a game against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Time with the Toronto Raptors (2016–2017)
In July 2016, Jared signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Raptors. He had surgery on his left foot in October 2016, which caused him to miss the first half of the season.
Jared made his debut for the Raptors in January 2017. He also spent some time playing for the Raptors' minor league team, Raptors 905, to help him recover. In February 2017, he was traded to the Phoenix Suns, but they waived him the next day.
Playing in China and Korea
After his time in the NBA, Jared Sullinger moved to play basketball overseas.
Shenzhen Leopards (2017–2018, 2021–2024)
In September 2017, Jared signed a deal with the Shenzhen Leopards in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). He played very well in China. In January 2018, he had an incredible game, scoring 40 points and grabbing 31 rebounds! This is a rare achievement in the CBA. He returned to play for the Shenzhen Leopards again from 2021 to 2024.
Anyang KGC (2021)
In February 2021, Jared joined Anyang KGC in the Korean basketball league. He helped his team win the league championship! He averaged 27.1 points and 12.3 rebounds per game during his time there.
Jared Sullinger continues his professional basketball career, now playing for the Beijing Royal Fighters in China.
