Jarius Jessereel Wynn (born August 29, 1986) is a former American American football player. He played as a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). A defensive end is a player who tries to stop the other team's offense.

Jarius was chosen by the Green Bay Packers in the 2009 NFL draft. He helped the Packers win Super Bowl XLV against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Before playing professionally, he played college football at the University of Georgia. He also played for the Tennessee Titans, San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, and Buffalo Bills.

Early Life and High School Football

Jarius Wynn grew up and went to Lincoln County High School. He was a top player on his high school football team. In 2004, he was named First-team All-State as a defensive lineman. This means he was one of the best defensive players in his state.

The year before, in 2003, he also earned First-team All-State honors. That time, it was for playing as an offensive lineman. This shows he was a talented player on both offense and defense!

College Football Journey

After high school, Jarius first attended Georgia Military College. In 2006, he was recognized as a Second-team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). He was also the team captain and their best defensive player.

During that year, he made 21 tackles, which means he stopped the opposing team's players many times. He also had eight tackles that caused the other team to lose yards. He was considered the best junior college defensive tackle in the country for 2007.

In January 2007, Jarius joined the University of Georgia. He started 13 games in his first season there. He led his team with 69 tackles. In 2008, he played in 13 games again, starting 12 of them. He made 54 tackles and pressured the opposing quarterback six times.

Professional Football Career

Jarius Wynn began his professional career in 2009.

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers picked Jarius Wynn in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL draft. He was the 182nd player chosen overall.

In 2010, the Packers released Jarius before the season started. This happens when teams need to reduce their roster to a certain number of players. He tried out for the Seattle Seahawks but didn't sign with them. However, a Packers player got injured, so Jarius was re-signed by the team on September 14, 2010.

He stayed with the Packers until August 27, 2012, when they released him again to meet roster rules.

Tennessee Titans

On November 7, 2012, Jarius Wynn signed with the Tennessee Titans. He joined them as a free agent, which means he was not under contract with any team at that time.

San Diego Chargers

Jarius then signed with the San Diego Chargers on April 3, 2013. He played in 5 games for them, making 3 tackles and getting one sack. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. He was released by the Chargers on October 8, 2013.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys signed Jarius Wynn on October 15, 2013. They needed defensive players because some of their team members were injured. He mostly played as a backup player. He made 12 tackles and had one sack for the Cowboys.

Buffalo Bills

Jarius signed with the Buffalo Bills on April 8, 2014, as a free agent. He played well for them, putting pressure on the quarterback 18 times and getting 2 sacks. Because of his good performance, the Bills signed him to a new two-year contract in March 2015.

However, Jarius suffered a serious knee injury in his first preseason game in 2015. He tore his ACL, which is a major ligament in the knee. This injury meant he could not play for the rest of the season. He was placed on the injured reserve list.

The Buffalo Bills released Jarius Wynn on May 2, 2016. He later announced that he was retiring from professional football in 2017.

Personal Life

Jarius Wynn is a family man. His wife, Martavia, gave birth to their second son, Jarius Jr., on the very morning of Super Bowl XLV. What an exciting day for the family! He also has another son named Jeremiah and a daughter named Jasiah.

Jarius is also related to another famous football player. He is the cousin of Garrison Hearst, who was a successful NFL running back.
