Jarkko Immonen's Hockey Journey

Jarkko started his hockey journey in Finland's second-highest league, Mestis, with TuTo Hockey in the 2000–01 season. The next year, he joined Ässät in the top Finnish league, Liiga. In 2002, he moved to another Liiga team, JYP, where he played for three years.

In 2002, Jarkko was chosen by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He was their eighth-round pick, 254th overall. This is when a team selects a player to join their organization.

On March 3, 2004, the Maple Leafs traded Jarkko to the New York Rangers. This trade was part of a bigger deal involving player Brian Leetch. Jarkko played his first game in the NHL for the Rangers during the 2005–06 season.

During his two years with the Rangers, he played 20 games in the NHL. He spent most of his time playing in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Hartford Wolf Pack. In 141 AHL games, he scored 54 goals and made 75 assists.

Jarkko returned to Finland for the 2007–08 season, rejoining JYP. He played there for two more years and helped his team win the Finnish championship in 2009. After that, he signed with Ak Bars Kazan in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), a major league in Europe and Asia. In his first year with Kazan, he won the KHL championship.

After four years with Ak Bars, Jarkko moved to another KHL team, Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, for the 2014–15 season. On March 30, 2015, he signed a two-year contract with the Swiss club EV Zug in the NLA.

When his contract with Zug ended, Jarkko came back to Finland to play for his original club, JYP, on a three-year deal starting in the 2017–18 season. On April 14, 2021, Jarkko continued his career by leaving JYP and signing a one-year contract with Jukurit, another Liiga team.

On May 5, 2024, Jarkko Immonen announced that he was retiring from professional hockey.
