Jarrod Lyle (born August 21, 1981 – died August 8, 2018) was an Australian professional golfer. He won two tournaments on the Nationwide Tour in 2008. Jarrod also played for several seasons on the PGA Tour, which is a very big golf tour. His best result there was finishing tied for 4th place in the 2012 Northern Trust Open.
Sadly, Jarrod was diagnosed with leukemia, a type of cancer, when he was a teenager. After his great golf performance in 2012, the leukemia came back. He had to go through a lot of treatment, which meant he couldn't play golf as much. In July 2018, Jarrod made the brave decision to stop his treatment. He passed away on August 8, 2018, at the age of 36.

Jarrod's Early Life and Family
Jarrod Lyle was born in Shepparton, Victoria, Australia. He started playing golf when he was just six years old. He would even carry his dad's golf clubs as a caddie!
When Jarrod was 17, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. This meant he had to stay in bed for nine months while getting chemotherapy at the Royal Children's Hospital. It took him another year to get enough energy to walk a golf course again. During this tough time, he became friends with another Australian golfer, Robert Allenby.
In March 2012, the leukemia came back. Then, in July 2017, it returned again. After much thought, Jarrod decided to stop treatment a year later. He chose to receive palliative care, which focuses on making a person comfortable. He died on August 8, 2018, just before his 37th birthday.
Jarrod married his partner, Briony Harper, in December 2011. They had two daughters together.
Jarrod's Golf Career
Jarrod Lyle became a professional golfer in 2004. He played in many tournaments on the 2005 Asian Tour, where he finished second twice. He also came in second at the 2006 ING New Zealand PGA Championship.
He then played on the 2006 Nationwide Tour. He did very well, finishing 18th on the money list. This earned him a special "PGA Tour card" for 2007. This card allowed him to play on the main PGA Tour. In 2007, he didn't have many top finishes and lost his card.
But Jarrod didn't give up! He went back to the Nationwide Tour in 2008. He won two tournaments: the Mexican Open and the Knoxville Open. He also finished second in another event. He ended up 4th on the money list, earning his PGA Tour card again for 2009.
The year 2009 was tough on the PGA Tour, but he kept trying. In 2010, he played on both the PGA Tour and Nationwide Tour. He then did well enough at the Q-School (a qualifying event) to get his full PGA Tour card for 2011.
A cool moment happened in 2011 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Jarrod scored a hole-in-one on the famous 16th 'Stadium Hole'! This was the first hole-in-one on that hole in nine years. He won $25,000 for a charity of his choice.
He earned his PGA Tour card again for 2012. In February 2012, he had his best PGA Tour finish, tying for 4th place at the Northern Trust Open. However, soon after, he was diagnosed with leukemia again.
After his second recovery from leukemia, Jarrod returned to golf in late 2013. He played his first PGA Tour-sanctioned round in 29 months in 2014. He made the cut and finished well in some tournaments. He tried hard to earn enough money to keep his PGA Tour spot, but it was very difficult. Sadly, his leukemia returned in July 2017.
In 2021, a new golf tournament was created in Australia. It's called the TPS Murray River and is played near Jarrod's hometown. It was named in his memory, which is a wonderful way to honor him.
