Jarvis Tatum (born October 11, 1946 – died January 6, 2003) was an American professional baseball player. He was born in Fresno, California. Jarvis played as an outfielder, mainly in center field. He threw and batted with his right hand. He was 6 feet (1.8 m) tall and weighed 185 pounds (84 kg).
Tatum played in 102 Major League Baseball (MLB) games. He spent parts of three seasons with the California Angels from 1968 to 1970.

Early Life and Baseball Start
Jarvis Tatum was born in Fresno, California. He went to Edison High School in Fresno. After finishing high school, he was chosen by the California Angels. This happened in the 16th round of the 1965 Major League Baseball Draft.
Playing in Major League Baseball
Jarvis Tatum's first two times playing in MLB were short. These happened after September 1st, when teams could have more players. In 1970, Tatum played almost the whole season with the Angels. He played in 75 games and started 44 of them in the outfield.
He had a batting average of .238 that year. However, he didn't hit many powerful shots. He only had seven extra base hits, which were all doubles. He also only stole one base.
Moving to Other Teams
On October 11, 1970, the Angels traded Jarvis Tatum. He was traded along with second baseman Doug Griffin and pitcher Ken Tatum (who was not related to Jarvis). They were sent to the Boston Red Sox. In return, the Angels received outfielder Tony Conigliaro, pitcher Ray Jarvis, and catcher Gerry Moses.
Jarvis Tatum never actually played for the Red Sox. He was released by Boston in April 1971. After that, he went to play in Japan. He played for the Yakult Atoms in the Japanese Central League for one year.
Later Career and Legacy
After his time in Japan, Jarvis Tatum came back to the United States. He played briefly at the Triple-A level in 1972. He also played in the Mexican League in 1973.
During his time in Major League Baseball, he had a batting average of .232. He got 59 hits, and 51 of those were singles. He also had eight runs batted in.
Jarvis Tatum passed away at the age of 56 in Los Angeles.
